19 March 2014; Mr. Alain Sibenaler, UNFPA representative to Sri Lanka and Country Director to Maldives, made a courtesy call on HerExcellency Ms. Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Foreign Affairs today.
During the meeting held at the Ministry, Minister Dunya and the Country Director, highlighted the ongoing activities and projects undertaken in the Maldives under the auspices of the United Nations (UN). Minister Dunya further briefed the Country Director on the Government's policies, priorities, including the foreign policy goals and objectives. In addition Minister Dunya and the Country Director's discussions focused on exploringavenues of strengthening the relationship between the Maldives and the UN.
Mr. Alain Sibenaler extended his assurance that the close working relationship would continue to flourish between the Maldives and the United Nations. The Country Director alsonoted the role of the Government in it's efforts in consolidating democracy and strengthening the socio-economic structures inthe Maldives, and further assured UN's firm commitment to the Government of Maldives in achieving such goals.
