20 January 2013, Male'; The Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in the Maldives, Mr. Andrew Cox paid his farewell call on Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdul Samad Abdullah today.
At the meeting Foreign Minister Samad thanked Mr. Cox for his contribution to the development of the country, during his three-year tenure as Resident Coordinator of UN Country Team in Maldives, as well as Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Maldives Office. The two officials also discussed the current political and economic situation of the country and shared views on how the UN can further assist the Government in this regard. Discussion also focused on current pending projects between the Government of Maldives and UN System.
State Minister Ms. Dunya Maumoon, Ambassador-at-large, Mr. Abdul Azeez Yoosuf, and Additional Secretary, Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed attended the meeting that was held at the Ministry.
Mr. Cox assumed duties in the Maldives at the UN Country Team in 2010 and is currently completing his round of farewell calls on senior Government officials, including HE President Dr. Mohamed Waheed.
A new Resident Coordinator is expected to be agreed upon between the United Nations and the Government soon.
