Today marks the 40th Anniversary of Diplomatic relations between Maldives and China

14 October 2012, Male';Today marks the 40th Anniversary of Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Maldives and People's Republic of China. The Maldives established diplomatic relations with China, on 14 October 1972.





On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary, congratulatory messages were exchanged by H.E. Dr. Mohamed Waheed, President of the Republic of Maldives and H.E. Mr. Hu Jintao, President of the People's Republic of China.



Congratulatory messages were also exchanged by H.E. Dr. Abdul Samad Abdulla, Minister of Foreign Affairs and H.E. Mr. Yang Jiechi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China.



In his message, the Minister said that he is "confident that the excellent relations between the Maldives and China will continue to strengthen in the years to come, and that the ties of friendship and cooperation forged over the past forty years will continue to be of mutual benefit and lead to further prosperity for our peoples".



The Government of Maldives and the Government of China will be carrying out a number of activities to mark this important occasion.
