22 June 2014, Male;H.E. Ms. Michele Sison, Ambassador of United States to the Maldives andMr Atul Keshap, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South Asiacalled on H.E. Ms. Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today.
The Ambassador and the DAS congratulated the Maldives on being elevated to Tier 2 status on the Trafficking in Person (TIP) report, released by U.S Department of States on 20 June 2014. DAS also noted that the close cooperation between the two countries in the areas of counter terrorism, Security, human rights and climate change.
Foreign Minister Dunya, while noting that the elevation of Maldives is an indication of recognition of the work being done by the Government against human trafficking, assured that the Government will continue to work with the U.S and the International Community in implementing further measures to stop human trafficking.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs was accompanied by H.E Ms. Fathimath Inaya, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
