The Fifth Round of Diplomatic Consultations between Maldives and China

6 January 2014, Male';The Fifth Round of Diplomatic Consultations between the Maldives and China was held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. H.E. Ms. Fathimath Inaya, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs headed the Maldives delegation, and H.E. Mr. Liu Zhenmin, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China headed the Chinese delegation.



During the consultations, Deputy Minister Ms. Fathimath Inaya noted the close historical relations between the Maldives and China and expressed appreciation to the Government and the People of China for the continued support and assistance provided to the Government and the People of Maldives.

The Vice Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China, highlighted the importance of continuing the diplomatic consultations between the two countries and re-assured that China will continue to assist the Maldives in its development efforts.

During the meeting, discussions focused on ways of further enhancing cooperation between the two countries, in areas including tourism promotion, cultural exchanges, women and youth development, trade and investment, and human resource development.

The meeting was attended by senior staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and senior staff of the Embassy of China in the Maldives.
