Signing of the Exchange of Letters regarding the construction of the Islands Stretch Road in Laamu Atoll under assistance from China

04 June 2013, Male':The Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of the People's Republic of China, today signed agreement to construct the ‘Islands Stretch Road' in Laamu Atoll.The road will be of about 15 kilometers, starting from the northern end of Gan Island and, end at the southern end of Fonadhoo Island.



During a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Exchange of Letters was signed by His Excellency Mr. Abdul Azeez Yoosuf, Ambassador- at-Large and His Excellency Mr. Yu Hongyao, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Maldives. Ambassador Azeez also thanked the people and the Government of China for it's continued assistance and support to the socio-economic development of the Maldives and expressed.Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Yu Hongyao highlighted the close friendship between the two countries and expressed hope that the construction of the road would bring development to region and benefit the people of Laamu Atoll.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure, Ministry of Finance and Treasury and the officials of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Male'.
