26 May 2014; President of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Mr. Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has called on the President of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa on the sidelines of the ongoing official visit to India, and thanked the Sri Lankan President for the recent strengthening of the bilateral ties between the two countries.
At the meeting, which was held this afternoon, President Yameen highlighted the longstanding friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Maldives, and noted the success of the President's maiden visit to Sri Lanka in January, that has led to further enhancing of the bilateral ties that exist between two countries.
Further at the discussions, Presidnet Yameen and the Sri Lankan President, concurred that the initiative taken on inviting SAARC Heads of States to the Inaugural Ceremony of Prime Minister Mordi, was an encouraging gesture, and a positive step towards maintaining the existing friendly relations and collaboration amongst the member states.
