15 May 2014, Male';President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of sympathy to President Abdullah Gul, following the deadly explosion at a coal mine in Soma.
The President's message read as follows;
"I was deeply shocked to learn about the deadly explosion at a coal mine in Soma, causing the loss of many innocent lives and injury to thousands of people. While the search for survivors continues, we pray that, of those that remain unaccounted for so far, more victims can be saved."
"At this time of national tragedy, the Government and the people of the Maldives join me in sending our profound sympathy to you, the Government and the people of Turkey. I wish the recovery efforts every success and commend the tenacity of the Turkish people in the face of such tragedy."
"Please also convey our sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families."
