7 September 2013, Male'; Polling has now ended in the Presidential Elections held in the Maldives. However, all eligible voters who lined up to vote before 1600 hrs will be able to cast their votes.
According to latest estimates received from the Elections Commission of the Maldives at 1600 hrs, more than 152,000 voters out of 239,593 eligible voters have voted in this election. Polling proceeded smoothly and peacefully across the country and abroad.
The counting of votes will start at 1630hrs or half an hour after voting finishes, at the respective polling stations. Preliminary results are expected to be released at 2300 hrs.
