3 January 2013, Male'; Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of the United Kingdom, Honourable Mr. Alistair Burt, MP, undertook an official visit to the Maldives from 2 - 3 February 2012.
The purpose of the visit was to follow the progress of the country particularly in the areas of political and economic development as well as to ascertain and consolidate the close relationship between the two countries.
During the visit Honourable Mr. Burtcalled on His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Waheed, His Excellency Foreign Minister Dr. Abdul Samad Abdullah and also met with representatives of political parties. Honourable Mr. Burt assured the support of the UK Government towards consolidating the reform programmes of the country.
Honourable Mr. Burt was accompanied by Mr. Robbie Bulloch, Deputy High Commissioner, British High Commission, Ms. Claire Scannell, Desk Officer for Maldives and Sri Lanka for South Asia Department, Ms. Fezlyn Saleem, Maldives Political Officer, British High Commission and Mr. Andrew Hunter, Assistant Private Secretary, during the visit.
