New South Korean Ambassador presents Credentials to the President

19 June 2014, Male'; The new South Korean Ambassador accredited to the Maldives, H. ‎E. Chang Won-sam, ‎presented his letter of credence to President Abdulla ‎Yameen Abdul Gayoom, this morning.‎



At the ceremony held at the President's Office to present the ‎credentials, President Yameen congratulated the Ambassador on the ‎commencement of his term. ‎

Meeting the new Ambassador afterwards, the President highlighted ‎the Maldives' commitment to strengthening the long-standing bilateral ties ‎between the Maldives and South Korea, and stated that future economic ‎cooperation is key to enhancing relations. In this regard, President Yameen ‎emphasized the importance of increasing Korean corporate investments in ‎the Maldives.‎

Ambassador Chang conveyed to President Yameen the good wishes ‎of South Korean President Park Geun-hye and stated that South Korea ‎cherishes and values its close relationship with the Maldives. The ‎Ambassador reiterated South Korea's commitment to supporting the ‎economic development of the Maldives.‎

The President and the Ambassador also explored opportunities ‎for ‎increasing cooperation between the Maldives and South Korea on issues of ‎trade, tourism and training. ‎

The meeting was attended by the Minister at the President's Office, ‎Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer ‎Mohamed, and the First Secretary of the Embassy of South Korea, Mr. ‎Jeong Dongik.‎
