19 June 2014, Male'; The new South Korean Ambassador accredited to the Maldives, H. E. Chang Won-sam, presented his letter of credence to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, this morning.
At the ceremony held at the President's Office to present the credentials, President Yameen congratulated the Ambassador on the commencement of his term.
Meeting the new Ambassador afterwards, the President highlighted the Maldives' commitment to strengthening the long-standing bilateral ties between the Maldives and South Korea, and stated that future economic cooperation is key to enhancing relations. In this regard, President Yameen emphasized the importance of increasing Korean corporate investments in the Maldives.
Ambassador Chang conveyed to President Yameen the good wishes of South Korean President Park Geun-hye and stated that South Korea cherishes and values its close relationship with the Maldives. The Ambassador reiterated South Korea's commitment to supporting the economic development of the Maldives.
The President and the Ambassador also explored opportunities for increasing cooperation between the Maldives and South Korea on issues of trade, tourism and training.
The meeting was attended by the Minister at the President's Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, and the First Secretary of the Embassy of South Korea, Mr. Jeong Dongik.
