10 April 2013, Male'; New Ambassador of Cyprus accredited to the Maldives, Maria Michail presented her letter of credence to President Dr Mohamed Waheed this morning.
At the ceremony held at the President's Office to present the credentials, President Waheed congratulated Ambassador Michail.
Meeting the new Ambassador afterwards, the President and the Ambassador discussed increasing cooperation between the Maldives and Cyprus in the areas of tourism and health.
President Waheed noted the similarities between the Maldives and Cyprus, both as small states and in the issues faced in the political arena. In this regard he expressed interest in learning from Cyprus' experience in building a democracy.
