Mr. Saeed's statement is highly irresponsible and seeks to undermine the CoNI process - Foreign Minister

27 Aug 2012 / Male'

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdul Samad Abdulla has said that the statement made by former President Nasheed's representative in the Commission of National Inquiry (CoNI), Mr Ahmed Saeed (Gaha Saeed) is highly irresponsible and seeks to undermine the work of the CoNI set up by President Dr Waheed to look into the events leading to and following the transfer of power of 7th February.

The Minister said that Mr Ahmed Saeed's statement just four days before the actual CoNI report is due to be made public, is an act to influence the report itself and destabilize the political situation in the country. Speaking to reporters this afternoon Mr. Saeed said that the draft report of CoNI does not include the real truth and that he has concerns that it might mislead the people of the Maldives. Minister Dr Samad said that the major concern of Mr. Saeed and the MDP is that the real picture of the events that took place on 7th February 2012 will come to light with the release of the report and so he is trying to protect Mr. Nasheed by misguiding the public beforehand.
