Minister Shahid sends SAARC Charter Day greetings
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid has sent a message of felicitations on the auspicious occasion of the Thirty-Eighth SAARC Charter Day.
Minister’s message reads as follows:
“It gives me great pleasure to convey warm greetings and best wishes on the occasion of SAARC Charter Day to the Secretary General of SAARC, the SAARC Secretariat, and the people of the South Asia region.
The SAARC Charter was envisioned to provide a durable mechanism to discuss the common concerns facing our region and address the economic aspirations of our region, with a view to fostering mutual trust and confidence among member nations. It is essential that we interact frequently in order to solve the significant challenges we face as a region and collaborate with one another amicably.
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected societies and economies around the globe and is bound to irreversibly transform communities as it continues to unfold, leaving our region with a series of unprecedented challenges. I firmly believe these obstacles could be surmounted if all member states remain dedicated and continue to collaborate closely, preserving a cohesive atmosphere of friendship and collaboration in the true spirit of SAARC.
Since its creation in 1985, the Maldives has been completely committed to SAARC, and we remain dedicated to cooperating with our neighbors to enhance the Association”.
