The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid sent a message of felicitations to the Secretary of State of the United States of America Antony J. Blinken on the occasion of their 245th Independence day.

Minister’s message read as follows:

“On behalf of the Government, the people of the Republic of Maldives and on my own behalf, I would like to extend warm greetings and sincere best wishes to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of United States of America, on the occasion of the 245th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

The Maldives and the United States enjoy a remarkable history of support and cooperation, one which spans over five decades. Our close and cordial relations grounded in mutual respect and understanding stands time-tested. As a staunch development partner, we are exceedingly appreciative to the Government of the United States for the support and assistance granted to the Maldives especially in the fields of security cooperation, climate change, governance, trade and investment. In particular, I note the generous contributions made by the Government of the United States following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the recent announcement to facilitate vaccines to our population. As evident, our relationship has flourished especially in the past couple of years and I firmly believe that close cordial ties between our two nations will continue to prosper in the years to come.

Please accept, Excellency, my best wishes for your good health and well-being, and for further progress of the people of the United States of America and the assurances of my highest consideration.”
