The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Abdulla Shahid has sent a message of condolence to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the State of Libya, Najla M. El Mangoush.
Minister’s message reads as follows:
“Excellency,
I am extremely shocked and saddened to hear the news of the severe flooding in eastern Libya, including the city of Derna, caused by the Mediterranean Storm Daniel, that has resulted in the tragic loss of thousands of lives and injuring several more, with thousands missing.
At this time of distress, on behalf of the Government and the people of Maldives, I extend our sincere condolences and sympathies to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of Libya. Let me also extend our heartfelt prayers to alleviate the suffering of all those affected by this disaster, especially to the bereaved families.
I sincerely hope that the efforts of the rescue teams continue swiftly and successfully and wish for a quick recovery to Libya from this disaster."
