Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Abdulla Shahid has sent a message of congratulations to the new Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) His Excellency Md Golam Sarwar on assuming his duties.
The Message reads as follows:
Excellency,
It gives me honour and pleasure to extend to Your Excellency my sincere congratulations and warmest wishes on your appointment as the Secretary General of SAARC.
The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) remains the region's most significant intergovernmental platform, founded on the hopes and aspirations of its people. At a time when SAARC is confronted with numerous obstacles, I am confident that, with your valuable experience we can realise much of the potential and possibilities for achieving the objectives of the organisation. In addition, I would like to assure you that the government of the Maldives will fully support your endeavours.
Please accept, Excellency, the assurance of my highest consideration and my best wishes for your good health and success, as well as for the sustained peace, development, and prosperity of the people of South Asia.
