The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid, met with Non-Resident High Commissioners and Ambassadors accredited to the Maldives based in New Delhi. The interaction took place at the reception hosted by the High Commissioner of Maldives to India, Ibrahim Shaheeb, in honour of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid.
Speaking at the reception, Minister Shahid delivered a remark in which he highlighted that the countries represented at the reception were valuable bilateral and multilateral partners to the Maldives. He also emphasized that bilateral relationship is the cornerstone of all international relations, and as accredited Ambassadors and High Commissioners, the Envoys had a heavy responsibility for strengthening and sustaining the relationship. Minister Shahid also underscored that people to people connections are crucial to bridge the gap and nurture closer cooperation between the countries.
Highlighting the upcoming candidatures of Maldives for the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Minister Shahid noted that the Maldives relied on the power of diplomacy and international cooperation, based on the three pillars of the its foreign policy, namely the promotion and protection of human rights, consolidating democracy, and championing climate diplomacy. He also added that the Maldives intends to meaningfully contribute towards maintaining international peace and security at the Security Council, and push for enhanced coordination and coherence across the UN system to help all countries achieve the SDGs and all its targets at the ECOSOC.
The reception hosted at Taj Palace, New Delhi was attended by Envoys from Algeria, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Chile, Colombia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Eritrea, Finland, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Kenya, Laos, Mauritius, Mexico, Morocco, Namibia, Oman, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Guinea, Republic of Sudan, Rwanda, Senegal Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Uganda, Ukraine and Zimbabwe.
