Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid held a virtual meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for International Relations and Cooperation of Namibia, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, this afternoon.
Minister Shahid and Minister Nandi-Ndaitwah spoke on the situation of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and the measures in place to mitigate its effects and strive towards a complete and comprehensive recovery, in their respective countries. The two Ministers also conversed on shared priorities in the international fora, including the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals, and the reform and strengthening of regional and multilateral mechanisms. Both Ministers reaffirmed their dedication to work closely together in the international arena to advocate for immediate and decisive action to combat and counter the effects of Climate Change.
The two Ministers further reiterated their commitment towards enhancing and expanding bilateral cooperation by exploring the potential for cooperation in sectors such as fisheries, agriculture and tourism. Both Ministers expressed their delight at having surpassed 30 years of cooperation and cordial ties, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and Namibia on 26 July 1990.
