The Minister and the Ambassadors also exchanged views on the priorities and challenges in the post Covid19 era and in the recovery efforts
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid today, held a virtual interaction with Geneva-based Ambassadors from several Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The Meeting was jointly organised by the Permanent Mission of Barbados and the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the United Nations Offices in Geneva. Representatives of fourteen SIDS, and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States took part in the meeting.
During the meeting, the Minister congratulated the Ambassadors on the occasion of the Human Rights Day, and thanked them for their continuous work towards the promotion and protection of human rights. The Minister further noted that human rights is a key foreign policy priority of the Maldivian Government, and that the Maldives is committed to working with the international community, focusing on recovering better from Covid19 by creating equal opportunities for all, by identifying and addressing the failures exposed and exploited by this pandemic, and work towards addressing inequalities, exclusion and discrimination.
The Minister and the Ambassadors also exchanged views on the priorities and challenges in the post Covid19 era and in the recovery efforts. Minister Shahid highlighted the importance of building back better, building back greener, and building back smarter. The Minister and the Ambassadors also exchanged views on key priorities for SIDS countries, such as climate change, the ocean and financing for sustainable development.
