Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Commits to Implement CMAG Recommendations

23 February 2012, Male';TheMinister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Maldives today committed the Government to work closely with the Commonwealth to implement the recommendations made by the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group. President Waheed has already welcomed the recommendations and the Government is now in the process of implementing the proposed steps including gaining broad political support to the steps.



"The Government strongly agrees with the Commonwealth's call for all political parties to put aside partisan difference and engage in a genuine dialogue without preconditions" said State Minister Ms. Dunya Maumoon. "That is the key to everything".

"The Government has already established an independent investigation mechanism and will be requesting for international assistance for the Commission's work and modalities. The Government's roadmap has also made clear its openness to early elections as conditions on the ground permit, and to work with all parties on necesarry constitutional amendments "said State Minister Dunya Maumoon.

"The Foreign Ministry will undertake detailed talks with the Commonwealth on how to implement all the recommendations made, to the satisfaction of our partners. We also look forward to working with the Secretary-General's special envoy", said Ms. Maumoon.
