Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia

4 March 2014: Geneva; Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Ms Dunya Maumoon has met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Dato Sri Anifah Aman of Malaysia on the sidelines of the High Level Segment of the 25th Session of the Human Rights Council currently underway in Geneva.



During the meeting the two Ministers discussed the historical bilateral ties that exist between the two countries and ways in which both countries can work internationally, especially within the OIC. Further, Minister Dunya briefed her Malaysian counter-part on the difficulties faced by Maldivians and Maldivian students in obtaining Malaysian visa and requested to simplify the procedure for Maldivians given the large number of students in Malaysian educational institutions. Minister Anifah shared that he would look into the matter, as Maldives is a close bilateral partner. The two ministers also discussed the Malaysian candidacy to the UN Security Council for the period 2015-2016 to which Minister Dunya pledged the Maldives' support.



Both Ministers also discussed issues of mutual concern internationally and exchanged views on how cooperation could be further strengthened.
