30th March 2011, Male': H. E. Mr. Ahmed Naseem, Minister of Foreign Affairs met with the Secretary General of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation H. E. Ms. Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed today to share details of the progress of the upcoming SAARC Summit scheduled to be held in Maldives later this year.
During the meeting Ms. Dhiyana spoke on the importance of finalizing a theme for upcoming Summit, and emphasized that the theme was decided by the host country.
Noting that the Summit in Maldives should focus on deliverables and tangible outcomes Minister Naseem stressed that the ongoing negotiations of SAARC agreements in the area of trade and environment be finalized without further delay. He also extended Maldives support to strengthening the SAARC Secretariat and expressed hope that the support of member states would allow the Secretariat to function more efficiently and with a focus on achieving its objectives.
