Minister of Foreign Affairs calls on United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

4 March 2014, Geneva; Her Excellency Ms Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives today called on Her Excellency Ms. Navenethem Pillay, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the High Level Segment of the twenty-fifth session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.



During the meeting Minister Dunya briefed the High Commissioner on the current political situation, and also the upcoming parliamentary elections and assured the Governments' full commitment to ensure a free, fair and inclusive election.



During the meeting the High Commissioner congratulated the Minister on her appointment as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and expressed her satisfaction in seeing the current Government's commitment to bring stability and improve the conditions on the ground.



The Minister and the High Commissioner also discussed the active role played by the Maldives at the United Nations Human Rights Council and the High Commissioner further expressed hope that the Maldives would continue taking such initiative in the Council on addressing human rights issues around the globe.
