26 April 2013, Male'; The Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdul Samad Abdulla yesterday met with Mr. David Amess MP, Chair of the All-Party British-Maldives Parliamentary Group as part of his official visit to the United Kingdom.
At the meeting the Minister briefed Mr. Amess on the current political situation in the Maldives and the positive steps the Government had taken to strengthen democratic institutions ahead of the Presidential Elections in September. Dr. Samad thanked Mr. Amess for the continued support the APPG had shown the Government anddiscussed ways in which the relationship between Maldivian Parliamentarians and Members of Parliament in the UK could be further strengthened.
Mr. Amess stated that the All Party Group had always taken a keen interest in issues pertinent to the Maldives and was hopeful that it would continue to provide assistance to the Government in this regard. Mr. Amess also expressed his beliefthat an exchange of dialogue between British and Maldivian Parliamentarians would be an effective way of strengthening Parliamentary institutions in the Maldives.
Minister Samad's meeting with the Mr. Amess was one of many engagements scheduled during his official visit to the United Kingdom.
