Minister briefs the local media about his official visit to Bangladesh

01st June 2011, Male';The Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Naseem today briefed the media after concluding his official visit to Bangladesh from 28-31 of May 2011.



At the press conference, Minister Naseem highlighted the purpose of his visit, stressing that discussions were held with his Bangladeshi counterpart and other Ministers to exchange views on a range of issues of interest to Bangladesh and the Maldives including, inter alia, trade and commerce, investment, shipping, civil aviation, education, tourism, health, defence, culture, youth and sports, employment of Bangladesh expatriate workers in the Maldives. The discussions also focused on regional and international issues of mutual interest, including the preparations for the 17th SAARC Summit and climate change.

During his visit to Bangladesh, Minister Naseem also signed an MoU on the Placement of Bangladeshi workers in Maldives. The Foreign Minister also paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Prime Minister of Bangladesh during his official.

The Foreign Minister of the Maldives was accompanied by an eight member delegation including Permanent Secretary Mr. Mohamed Naseer and several private sector representatives working in the hospitality and tourism sector of the Maldives.

The Minister also briefed the media about the ongoing 17th Session of the Human Rights Council, highlighting the focus areas for Maldives, namely advocating the rights of the children, women, torture and increasing the accountability of the judiciary. After his statement, the Minister took questions from the media on related issues.
