"Today, on the occasion of the United Nations Day, we praise the phenomenal rise of the UN which has become the epitome of multilateralism and a model for universality across the world.

The principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations reflects the establishment of the organisation as a true champion for peace and security, development and respect for human rights.

The Maldives is committed to the ideals of the United Nations. We have unwavering faith in the organisation as a catalyst for positive change, and remain hopeful in its potential to address the diverse needs of a dynamic world. Our hope stems from the pioneering role played by the United Nations in bringing order to the world and fostering international cooperation.

Since joining the UN, the Maldives has been committed to playing a constructive role within the organisation. As one of the very few countries to have graduated from the UN’s category of Least Developed Countries” the Maldives has accelerated its accomplishments in the economic, social and political sphere by committing ourselves to the landmark development agendas, most recently the Agenda 2030 and the Paris Agreement.

As a passionate supporter of multilateralism, the Maldives will continue to promote international cooperation that is based on mutual respect and understanding.
