19th October 2012, Male';The member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, His Excellency Mr. Li Changchun, at the invitation of the Maldivian Government, arrived today starting his two-day official visit to the Maldives. On his arrival His Excellency Mr. Li was welcomed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Dr. Abdul Samad Abdullah.
His Excellency Mr. Li delivered a Statement at the airport, applauding the healthy growth of the bilateral ties since the two nation's forged diplomatic relationship 40 years ago, noting the Maldives is an important nation in South Asia and the China-Maldives relations have been a model for determining the ties between the two nations.
At the Statement His Excellency Mr. Li said, "The development of relations between China and the Maldivians serves the fundamental interests of the two peoples as well as maintaining the regional peace, stability and prosperity".
During his visit, Li is scheduled to meet with His Excellency Mohamed Waheed, President of Maldives and Speaker of Parliament His Excellency Mr. Abdullah Shahid to exchange views on the bilateral relations and issues of common concern.
