Maldivians in Nepal and Bangladesh return home with assistance from Bangladesh Armed Forces

Seventy one Maldivians from various cities of Bangladesh and Nepal have arrived home on a special flight of the Bangladesh Armed Forces from Dhaka

 

Seventy one Maldivians from various cities of Bangladesh and Nepal have arrived home on a special flight of the Bangladesh Armed Forces from Dhaka, today. Most of these Maldivians are medical students or doctors in training, who were stranded due to the lockdowns and travel restrictions imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Bangladesh and Nepal, as in most parts of the world.

Further, in response to a request by the Maldives, Bangladesh Armed Forces has also sent a medical team consisting of doctors and medical officers. With the worsening of the COVID-19 situation in Maldives, this kind gesture by the Bangladesh Government is well-timed and much appreciated by the Government and people of Maldives.

The Government of Maldives takes this opportunity to thank the Government of Nepal for facilitating the operation of a special flight to evacuate the Maldivians in Nepal to join the flight in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The Government of Maldives extends its deep appreciation to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh Chief of Army Staff, General Aziz Ahmed, Foreign Minister Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, MP, the Government and people of Bangladesh for their timely assistance in repatriating the Maldivians and sending the medical team.
