04 June 2014, Kuala Lumpur; The High Commission of Maldives in Malaysia today held a dialogue and discussion meeting with key educational institutions of Kuala Lumpur.
The meeting, held at the High Commission, yesterday was focused on building a good rapport with the institutions and communicating the challenges faced by Maldivian students during their study in Malaysia and exchange views on how these can be overcome.
Opening the discussion, Counsellor at the Mission Ms. Ghaniya Abdul Ghafoor thanked the Universities and Colleges for their continued cooperation. During the dialogue it was highlighted that Maldives played a major part in developing Malaysia as an educational hub of the region, and most importantly, that the increased number of Maldivian students in Malaysia was a result of the success of the marketing fairs conducted between the two countries.
The High Commission also urged the institutions to provide accurate information regarding immigration processes so that students and their guardians could make informed decisions before their travel to Malaysia.
Discussions also focused on the hardships faced by Maldivian students when their passports are not on them during visa processing. Views were exchanged on how these critical issues could be solved with a view to ensuring the welfare of students. Thirteen Universities and Colleges participated in today's dialogue. These include, Sunway University, Monash University, University Tun Razak, Asia Pacific University, UCSI University, Taylors University, Segi University, International Medical University, KBU International College, Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur, University of Nottingham, Nilai university and KDU. The High Commission will be holding such dialogue forums during the course of the year to facilitate a smoother stay for Maldivian students in Malaysia.
