10 July 2012, Male'; Maldives delegation led by His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, Minister of Home Affairs and H.E Dunya Maumoon, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs will be travelling to Geneva to attend the Maldives treaty reporting event under International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
Maldives acceded to the ICCPR and its first optional protocol on 19 September 2006. The ICCPR came into force for Maldives on 19 December 2006. The Maldives initial report under ICCPR was prepared in accordance with article 40 of the covenant- which is addressed by the Core Document submitted by Maldives which covers from January 2007 to January 2010. The Government in June has already responded to list of issues raised by the committee with regard to the initial report under ICCPR submitted by the Maldives in 2010.
The Maldives review session will be held at the 105th Session of the Human Rights Committee to be held in Geneva from 12- 13 July 2012.
