08th November 2012, Male'; 2012 marks the 40th anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Maldives and People's Republic of China. It is an important milestone for the rapidly expanding relationship between the two countries and offers an opportunity to reflect on the evolution of Maldives - China relationship and consider new ideas and initiatives to strengthen, enrich and deepen both countries future engagements.
Maldives - China strong political ties are the foundation for a broader relationship covering trade, tourism and people-to-people links. The China Strategy articulates the following vision: Maldives and China have strong and resilient economic, political and people-to-people relationship which has stimulated Maldives innovation, learning and economic growth.
As a sideline event, Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched a Book on ‘Maldives and China Relationship' today to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Maldives and the People's Republic of China followed by handover ceremony of a Grant Aid by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the People's Republic of China (CPC).
The relations between Maldives and China continued to improve, and formal diplomatic relations were established in 14th October 1972. Today, the strategic partnership between Maldives and China is flourishing.
