Maldives and Togo establish diplomatic relations

The Republic of Maldives and the Togolese Republic have formally established diplomatic relations today.

The Joint Communiqué formalizing diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed on behalf of the Government of Maldives by Her Excellency Thilmeeza Hussain, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations and on behalf of the Government of Togo by Mr. Koffi Akakpo, Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Togo to the United Nations.

Cultivating meaningful partnerships with countries that respect and value friendship remain a key priority of the foreign policy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. As comparatively small nations in the international arena, the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Togo paves the way for the two countries to increase bilateral and multilateral cooperation to achieve common goals in areas of mutual interest.

The Togolese Republic is a country in West Africa, with a population of approximately 8 million.

Togo is the 184th country to establish diplomatic relations with the Maldives.
