Maldives and the United States of America signs a Memorandum of Understanding to extend the Fulbright Exchange Program

29 January 2014, Male'; The Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of the United States of America, has today, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to extend the Fulbright Exchange Program for a further period of five years.



The MoU was signed by Her Excellency Ms. Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Her Excellency Ms. Michele J. Sison, Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Maldives, on behalf of the Government of Maldives and the Government of the United States, respectively.

The Fulbright Exchange Program is intended to strengthen and develop ties between the Maldives and the United States of America, through academic, professional, and cultural exchanges between the two countries. Through this MoU, over 20 students from the Maldives have completed the Fulbright Masters and the Humphry Fellowship Program, and a number of professionals and researchers from the United States have alsoworked in the Maldives. The Fulbright Exchange Program was initially signed between the Maldives and the United States of America in 2003, and extended for a further period of 5 years in 2008.

The signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and witnessed by senior officials from the Ministry and officials of the Embassy of the United States of America in Colombo.
