9 December 2011 - The High Commission of Maldives in London today hosted an orientation event for the teacher volunteers travelling to the Maldives on the International Volunteer Programme 2012 at the University of Westminster.
The guest of honour, Dr. Ali Haidar briefed the volunteers on Maldivian history, culture and politics; followed by the High Commissioner, Dr. Farahanaz Faizal who gave the volunteers specific information about what they could expect from the Maldives and how to prepare for their stay in the islands.The talks closed with a question and answer session, after which the volunteers were taken to a reception at the High Commission where Maldivian delicacies were served.
The volunteers were also given information packs detailing the island and school they had been assigned to, who they would be partnered with, and information about Maldivian culture and their schedule on arrival.
