14 November 2011, Male'; Minister of State for Foreign Affairs H.E. Mr Aslam Shakir, has today, met with a high level Indonesian Parliamentary Delegation, headed by Dr Mohammed Hidayat Nur Wahid, M.A., Chairman of the Inter Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.The meeting was held this afternoon at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, State Minister Aslam highlighted the close and brotherly relations that Maldives shares with Indonesia, and noted that the Delegation's visit to the Maldives is symbolic of the growing relationship between the two countries.
Noting the vast potential for cooperation between the Maldives and Indonesia, discussions were held on ways of further strengthening and diversifying the existing ties between the two countries. State Minister Aslam Shakir and the Parliamentary Delegation also assured that they will work for the mutual benefit of the two countries, particularly in the field of socio-economic development, and through establishing greater people to people contact.In this regard, particular emphasis was also given on increasing educational opportunities in Indonesia for Maldivian students, and collaboration with Indonesia, in hosting the International Conference on Shariah Jurisprudence and Human Rights, next year.
The meeting was also attended by Mr Mohamed Naseer, Permanent Secretary and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
