Indian Chief of Army Staff Calls on the President

08 May 2014, Male'; The visiting Chief of the Army Staff of India, General Bikram Singh‎ has paid a courtesy ‎call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. The meeting was held this afternoon ‎at the President's Office.‎



At the meeting, President Yameen and General Bikram discussed the historic close ‎‎friendly relations that exist between the Maldives and India, and ways ‎to enhance these ‎relations in the years ahead.‎ ‎

President Yameen and General Bikram further explored ways of expanding cooperation ‎between the two countries in strengthening defence and security cooperation.‎

General Bikram briefed the President on ongoing engagements between the Maldives ‎National Defence Force (MNDF) and the Indian Army. He also expressed the ‎commitment of the Government of India to widening and deepening of relations ‎between the two countries.‎

President Yameen was joined at the call by the Minister of Defence and National ‎Security, Col (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim, Minister at the President's Office, Hon. Mohamed ‎Hussain Shareef and the Chief of Defence Forces, Major General Ahmed Shiyam.‎

General Bikram was joined at the call by the High Commissioner of India to the ‎Maldives, H.E. Mr. Rajeev Sahare, Major General J.S. Negi, Colonel C.S. Dewgun and ‎Defence Advisor, Captain R.S. Sunil. ‎
