Inclusive Education Support Units in Afeefuddin School and Hafiz Ahmed School established under Indian Grant Assistance inaugurated
A virtual ceremony to mark the inauguration of the Establishment of Inclusive Education Support Units in Afeefuddin School, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi and Hafiz Ahmed School, Gn. Fuvahmulah was held today. This project was funded with a grant of 1.6 million Rufiyaa, under the Indian Grant Assistance of 106 million Rufiyaa.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, the Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali, Honourable Members of Parliament of the respective constituencies and High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Sunjay Sudhir.
Speaking at the event, Minister Shahid highlighted the importance of designing schools and classes in such a way that all children feel a sense of belonging, thus instilling good values that enable children to grow and become valuable contributors to their communities in the near future. Under this project, the human resource capacity of the Inclusive Education Support Units established in both schools had been strengthened significantly through the provision of specialised training programmes offered to staff members and the procurement of learning materials. In addition, the infrastructure of the Inclusive Education Support Units at both schools have undergone refurbishment, to provide a conducive learning environment for the students and staff of the schools.
The financial support has been provided from the grant assistance of USD 6.9 million (MVR 106 million) granted to the Government of Maldives by the Government of India in March 2019. The aim of the grant assistance is to conduct socio-economic development projects across the country which are of high impact. The projects under this grant are managed by local authorities.
