High Commissioner H. E. Mr. Mohamed Fahmy Hassan has made a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Malaysia H. E. Dato Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Razak.
During the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office at Bangunan Perdana Putra, the Prime Minister congratulated Mr. Fahmy for being appointed as the New High Commissioner of Maldives to Malaysia and recalled how the bilateral relation between the Maldives and Malaysia strengthened and flourished during the tenure of the Former President H. E. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and expressed his appreciation for the excellent bilateral ties between the two countries.
High Commissioner conveyed good wishes from H. E. President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and the Government and the people of the Maldives to Malaysian Government and its people. The High Commissioner expressed Maldivian Government’s desire to further strengthen the excellent relations, and noted that the President and the Government wishes to exchange more frequent high level visits to foster the bilateral relation of the two countries.
The High Commissioner also noted that the Government of Maldives places great importance to take the relationship between the two countries to new heights and stressed the need for an easy visa regime between the two countries. In this regard, the High Commissioner recalled the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia H. E. Dato Sri Anifah Aman and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives H. E. Ms. Dunya Maumoon, in Jeddah during which the same issue were discussed. An easy visa regime will resolve most of the visa issues that most Maldivians faces now.
In the meeting both the High Commissioner and the Prime Minister discussed ways to further strengthen the relations between the two countries, especially in the fields of social and economic development and also health and educational sector.
In conclusion the High Commissioner indicated that the Government of Maldives is confident that the relations between the two countries would remain outstanding in the future as well and that Maldives would receive the same level of support and assistance from Malaysia as a brotherly Muslim Country.
