Government of Maldives does not recognize the MoU signed between Male' City Council and Kaosiung City of Taiwan

10 June 2013, Male'; The Government of Maldives does not recognize the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Male' City Council and Kaosiung City of Taiwan on 9 June 2013.



The Government of Maldives reaffirms its commitment and support to China's national unity and to the one-China Policy. The Maldives' firm conviction of one-China policy is guided by the principles of respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference in the internal affairs of states and considers Taiwan as an integral part of the People's Republic of China.

China is a very important development partner for the Maldives and the Government of Maldives will continue to work with the Government of the People's Republic of China to strengthen the close ties of friendship and co-operation existing between our two countries.
