Government of Maldives and Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Foreign Ministries

The Government of Maldives and the Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic signed a “Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic ”, yesterday.

At a ceremony held in New York on the margins of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed on behalf of the Government of Maldives by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid, and on behalf of the Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic by His Excellency Saleumxay Kommasith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The signing of the first agreement between the Maldives and Laos marks an important milestone that strengthens bilateral cooperation as the two countries celebrate 10 years of diplomatic relations this year.

Maldives established diplomatic relations with Laos on 10 February 2012.
