Former President Nasheed's Trial Postponed: Updated Information

6 March 2013, Male'; The Hulhumale Magistrate Court has decided today to postpone the trial of former President Mohamed Nasheed for four weeks. The court's decision came following Mr. Nasheed's legal counsel's request in the court to postpone the case either for four weeks or until the Presidential elections.

After deliberations by the bench, the court decided to postpone the case for four weeks, on the request by the former President, as the Elections Commission had not yet formally declared the candidates of the election. The court, however, did mention that once the candidacy was announced formally, they would consider the matter again.

Presidential elections are slated for September this year.
