Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed participates at WION Global Summit

Foreign Secretary shared the experience of the Maldives, and the impact of the pandemic on small economies like the Maldives

Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed participated at the WION Global Summit, entitled: Power play in a post-pandemic world, held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates today.

The Foreign Secretary Ghafoor was part of the panel entitled “World Economy: The price of the pandemic”, alongside former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Australia Alexander Downer, former Vice President of World Bank Professor Ian Goldin, former Economic Adviser to the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Dynkin, and former Minister of Finance and former Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Mr. Jacek Rostowski.

Foreign Secretary shared the experience of the Maldives, and the impact of the pandemic on small economies like the Maldives, that are especially dependent on tourism. He noted the importance of good bilateral and multilateral relationships for small countries, while highlighting that it was those partnerships that had supported the Maldives during the pandemic. He also noted the importance of multilateral cooperation to counter global challenges such as COVID-19.

The WION Global Summit is a platform bringing together diplomats and academics to discuss perspectives on challenges faced by the wider world. This is the fourth edition of the WION Global Summit, focusing insights on the impacts of the post-pandemic world.
