Foreign Secretaries of Maldives and Bangladesh hold Bilateral Consultations.
he Foreign Secretary of Maldives, Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed and the Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh, Masud Bin Momen held the first Bilateral Consultations,. as prescribed under the MoU on the Establishment of Bilateral Consultations signed between the two countries earlier this year.
During the consultations held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, both Foreign Secretaries reflected on the long history of close relations between Maldives and Bangladesh, which has been elevated to much higher levels in recent months.
The two Foreign Secretaries reviewed the entire spectrum of cooperation and engagements between the two countries, and discussed the strengthening and deepening of the multi-faceted relationship between Maldives and Bangladesh.
In their discussion, particular emphasis was laid on accelerating the implementation of the agreements signed between Maldives and Bangladesh recently, and to expedite the conclusion of other important pending agreements.
Increasing connectivity and bilateral trade between the two nations were highlighted by Foreign Secretary Momen. Foreign Secretary Ghafoor noted the importance of cooperation in higher education and development of human resources, training and capacity building, in particular for the health sector of Maldives. Other areas of discussion included cooperation in climate change, culture, fisheries and agriculture.
Foreign Secretary Ghafoor expressed gratitude to the Government of Bangladesh for the continued support and commitment extended to the Government and the people of the Maldives, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, along with a high-level delegation from the Government of Bangladesh is on a two-day official visit to the Maldives.
