Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid sends Independence Day greetings to the Minister of External Affairs of India

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid has sent a message of greetings to the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, His Excellency Dr S. Jaishankar, on the occasion of India's Independence Day.

Minister’s message reads as follows:

Excellency,

As your diverse and beautiful land celebrate the 74th Independence Day, the people and the Government of Maldives join me in extending to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of India, our most sincere and warmest congratulations, on this auspicious occasion.

Since the attainment of its independence, India has strived for the betterment of its people and, at the same time, shared its acquired expertise and rich experience with the rest of the world. Today, India stands as an enduring example of democracy and development, for the region, and the world.

The Maldives and India will celebrate 55 years of exemplary formal diplomatic relations in November this year. However, the links between our peoples are far older, and the ties that bind us continue to flourish. I am confident that during this difficult time of Covid-19 our two countries will continue to work together for the safety, and mutual benefit of our two peoples.

May I also take this opportunity to convey my personal good wishes for your health and well-being, and for the continued progress and prosperity of the friendly people of India.

Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.
