Foreign Minister Shahid sends a message of good wishes and congratulations to the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Abdulla Shahid sends a message of good wishes and congratulations to Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, on the eve of the opening of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Minister’s message reads as follows:
“It gives me great pleasure to send good wishes and warm congratulations to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of Qatar, on the eve of the opening of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
It is a matter of immense pride that Qatar is the first Muslim country, and only the second Asian country to host the World Cup. As a small State, the Maldives is also extremely proud of the fact that Qatar is the smallest country to host the World Cup - a fact that demonstrates the capability and ability of small States to make meaningful contributions in every field.
We congratulate the Qatari people for the excellent preparations for the World Cup, especially during a time of recovery from a global pandemic. And we applaud the Government’s efforts to enhance sustainability during the World Cup, including in energy use, waste management, and infrastructure.
The people of the Maldives looks forward to an entertaining and successful 2022 World Cup, and wish the people of Qatar every success.
Please accept, the assurances of my highest considerations.”
