Minister of Foreign Affairs has sent a message of condolence to the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid has sent a message of condolence to the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, His Excellency Dr S. Jaishankar, following the devastation caused by super cyclonic storm Amphan.

Minister’s message reads as follows:

I am deeply saddened to hear the news of intensified super-cyclonic storm Amphan, causing devastation to a large part of West Bengal and Odisha.

At this time of national distress, amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, on behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives, I extend our deepest sympathies to the Government and the people of India, especially to those from the affected States, to the families that lost lives, and the people that lost their livelihoods. At the same time, we applaud the preparedness and safety measures taken by the central and State Governments to minimize the devastations.

I hope that the efforts of the emergency response teams proceed with ease and success, and commend the perseverance of the people of India during this crisis. We will continue to work with India, and all our neighbours, to build our collective resilience to disasters – natural and man-made – to ensure a prosperous future for all.
