Foreign Minister Shahid meets with Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid met with his Saudi counterpart, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, in New York this afternoon.
The current crisis in Palestine was at the forefront of the discussions of the meeting between the respective Foreign Ministers. The two Ministers noted the need for the international community to join efforts towards a future of peace and security of an Independent Palestine, and discussed the importance of raising a collective voice in the international fora, to call for an immediate stop to the violence in the region. Minister Shahid welcomed Saudi Arabia’s leadership in mobilising international attention and action on the plight of Palestinian people, especially within the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
The two Ministers also deliberated on the strong bilateral relations between the two countries and exchanged views on the current situation of the Covid-19 crisis. Both Ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to enhance the special bond and cooperation between Maldives and Saudi Arabia based on shared values, mutual respect and understanding, and to continue working together on issues of mutual concern.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the joint debate on the “situation in the middle east” at United Nations General Assembly.
