Foreign Minister Shahid meets with CEO of OMRAN and representatives of the Oman Investment Authority

Foreign Minister His Excellency Abdulla Shahid, the Special Envoy of President His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with Mr. Hashil bin Obaid Al-Mahrouqi, the CEO of Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN), and representatives of Oman Investment Authority (OIA). OMRAN is the executive arm of Oman responsible for delivering the objectives contained in Oman’s 2040 National Tourism Strategy. The OIA is Oman’s sovereign wealth fund and the main investment arm that undertakes the investment of the financial surplus achieved from oil and gas revenues.

At the meeting held at the Oman Investment Authority, Minister Shahid briefed Mr. Al-Mahrouqi on President Solih’s Economic agenda, the post-covid economic recovery efforts and the current economic situation of the Maldives. Minister Shahid explained the advantages of investing in Maldives and gave details of investment opportunities in the Maldives, including in the Southern and Northern regions.

Mr. Al-Mahrouqi noted that the opportunities that exist in the Maldives are of great interest to Omani businesses and expressed his hope to work together to pursue those opportunities in the future. In this regard, both Ministers discussed possible next steps in order to take the discussion further.

Foreign Minister Shahid was accompanied at the meeting by the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Sultanate of Oman, His Excellency Mohamed Khaleel and the Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Fathimath Najwa. Mr. Al-Mahrouqi was accompanied by Dr. Lubna Badar Al Mazroei, Manager - Economic Diversification Investments and officials of the Oman Investment Authority.
