Foreign Minister Shahid holds a virtual meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guyana

Maldives and Guyana are both members of the Commonwealth and the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid held a virtual meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, Hugh Hilton Todd, today.

During the meeting, Minister Shahid and Minister Todd held discussions on ways to fortify the bilateral cooperation between both countries and further enhancing cooperation at the multilateral sphere in addressing global issues of mutual importance, such as climate change. Both Ministers also highlighted on the economic and financial impacts of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the present efforts underway to revive the economy.

Maldives formally established diplomatic relations with Guyana on 13 April 1994. Maldives and Guyana are both members of the Commonwealth and the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
